Honorific prefix used in reference to the emperor, imperial family, or Shinto gods. Appears in fixed compounds like 大御心 (おおみこころ, 'imperial will') and 大御神 (おおみかみ, 'great god'). Not freely productive in modern Japanese.

Alternate kanji spelling; reading おおん is less common. May be encountered in historical or literary contexts.
The prefix 大御 (おおみ) is a combination of 大 (おお, 'great') and 御 (み, an honorific prefix). The reading おおみ is the most common; おおん and おおむ are historical or euphonic variants. The exact derivation of the variants is uncertain.
