Formal, literary term for ritual suicide by cutting the abdomen. Virtually synonymous with 切腹 (せっぷく), but 屠腹 is much rarer and carries a more classical, written tone.
It is said that the samurai committed seppuku to follow his lord in death.
The term 屠腹 is used in this historical document, but 切腹 is more common today.
