A Pure Land Buddhist concept: Amida Buddha's vow is especially directed at saving evil beings, who have the greatest need. Used as a set phrase, not a general expression.

• 親しん鸞らんは「悪あく人にん正しょう機き」を説とき、阿あ弥み陀だ仏ぶつの本ほん願がんは悪あく人にんこそ救すくうと教おしえた。

  Shinran taught 'akunin shōki,' that Amida Buddha's primal vow saves even evil persons.

• 悪あく人にん正しょう機きの教おしえは、善ぜん人にんよりも悪あく人にんこそが救きゅう済さいの対たい象しょうであると説とく。

  The teaching of akunin shōki holds that evil persons, rather than good ones, are the very object of salvation.
