circular flat stoneware flask
A specific type of traditional Japanese stoneware flask, flat and circular in shape, often used for sake or other liquids.
This flat stoneware flask was used as a sake vessel in the Edo period.
Variant with simplified 壷 instead of 壺; both are used.
Compound of 扁 (へん, 'flat') and 壺 (こ, 'pot, jar'). The reading こ for 壺 is an older or specialized variant of つぼ.
