Humble expression used when the speaker visits or calls on someone of higher status. Very rare in modern Japanese; 参上する is a more common humble alternative.

参上する is a more common humble verb for visiting someone of higher status. 拝趨 is much rarer and more formal.
The kanji 拝 (hai, 'bow, worship') and 趨 (suu, 'hasten, proceed') combine to convey humbly going to visit someone. The exact historical derivation is uncertain.
