Causative of 握る. Used literally for letting someone grasp something, and idiomatically for secretly giving money as a bribe. The bribery sense is common in political or shady contexts.

  You must not let a child hold the steering wheel.

• 彼かれは役やく人にんに札さつ束たばを握にぎらせた。

  He bribed the official by slipping a wad of cash into his hand.
