sakura-mochi; rice cake with sweet bean paste wrapped in a pickled cherry leaf
A traditional Japanese sweet (wagashi) made of pink-colored mochi filled with anko (sweet red bean paste) and wrapped in a salt-pickled cherry leaf. The leaf is edible but often removed before eating. Commonly eaten during cherry blossom season.
When spring comes, I buy sakura-mochi at the Japanese confectionery shop.
The leaf of sakura-mochi is edible, but many people remove it before eating.
