Archaic transitive verb referring to the historical practice of displaying a severed head as a warning or punishment. The verb is a precursor to modern する verbs and is not used in contemporary Japanese.
昔、罪人の首を梟すことがあった。
In the past, they would sometimes expose the heads of criminals.
