kiseru cleaning tool
A small metal tool used to scrape out ash and tobacco residue from a kiseru (traditional Japanese smoking pipe).
My grandfather used a hihata-ki to knock the ash out of his kiseru.
Compound of 火 (hi, 'fire') and 叩き (hataki, 'beater' or 'tapper'), literally 'fire tapper', referring to its function of tapping out ash.
