yew plum pine; Podocarpus macrophyllus
A coniferous evergreen tree native to Japan and China, often used in hedges and ornamental planting.
We use yew plum pine for the hedge in our garden.
Katakana spelling is common for this plant name; usually written in kana.
Kanji spelling using 槙 (podocarp); rarely used in practice.
Variant kanji spelling with 槇; even less common than 犬槙.
Compound of 犬 (inu, 'dog') and 槙 (maki, 'podocarp'), literally 'dog podocarp', perhaps because it is a less valuable relative of the true maki tree.
