noun
younger stepsister
Archaic term for a younger step-sister. In modern Japanese, 義理の妹 or まま妹 (ままいもうと) are more common.
古文書には「継妹」という語が見られるが、現代ではほとんど使われない。
The word 継妹 appears in old documents, but it is hardly used today.
Compound of まま (step-, from 継ぐ 'to succeed') and いも (archaic word for 'sister', modern いもうと). The exact historical derivation is uncertain.
