daimyo's city storehouse
Historical term for a storehouse and residence maintained by a daimyo in a major city (especially Edo or Osaka) during the Edo period, used to store and sell domain goods.
During the Edo period, many domains had a kurayashiki in Osaka.
Compound of 蔵 (kura, 'storehouse') and 屋敷 (yashiki, 'residence'). The term reflects the dual function of these buildings as both storage and living quarters for domain officials.
