laceration
Medical term for a wound caused by tearing of soft body tissue. More specific than 切り傷 (cut) or 擦り傷 (abrasion).
He suffered a laceration on his arm in the accident.
裂創は縫合が必要になることが多い。
Lacerations often require sutures.
Compound of 裂 (れつ, 'tear') + 創 (そう, 'wound'). The reading れっそう results from assimilation (促音便).
