yodan verb with 'su' ending (archaic), transitive verb
get used to seeing; become familiar with (a sight)
Archaic transitive verb. In modern Japanese, the intransitive 見慣れる (みなれる) is used instead. This form may appear in classical texts or deliberately old-fashioned writing.
古語では「見慣らす」と書き、目に馴染ませる意で使われた。
In classical language, 見慣らす was written and used to mean making something familiar to the eyes.
その景色は、長年見慣らしたものだった。
That scenery was something he had grown accustomed to seeing over many years. (archaic usage)
Modern intransitive equivalent meaning 'to get used to seeing' or 'to become familiar with a sight'. 見慣らす is its archaic transitive counterpart.
Compound of 見 (mi, 'seeing') + 慣らす (narasu, 'to accustom'). The verb 慣らす is the transitive form of 慣れる (nareru, 'to get used to'). The modern form 見慣れる developed as the intransitive counterpart.
