霄しょう漢かん

Archaic literary term for the sky or heavens, found in classical Chinese-influenced writing. Not used in everyday speech; modern equivalents are 空 (そら) or 天空 (てんくう).

• 古こ典てんでは「霄漢しょうかに星んにほしが輝かがやく」のように使つかわれることがある。

  In classical texts, it is sometimes used as in 'stars shine in the firmament.'
