A ritual chant recited during Setsubun (節分) while scattering roasted soybeans to drive away evil spirits and invite good luck. Often said repeatedly.
節分の夜、豆をまきながら「鬼は外、福は内」と大きな声で言った。
On Setsubun night, I loudly chanted 'Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi' while scattering beans.
A traditional Setsubun chant. The exact origin is uncertain, but it reflects the folk belief of driving out oni (demons/misfortune) and welcoming fuku (good fortune) into the home.
