Mimetic adverb describing a sudden, clumsy fall, often with a sense of helplessness or comedy. Typically used with と and verbs like 転ぶ.

• 道みちでつまずいて、すってんころりと転ころんでしまった。

  I tripped on the road and fell flat on my face.

• 子こどもがすってんころりんと転ころんだが、すぐに立たち上あがった。

  The child tumbled down with a thud but got right back up.
