Verb-forming suffix attached to a noun or adjective stem to express that someone or something shows the quality of that stem. Often used in fixed compounds such as 大人びる (to look mature) and ひなびる (to look rustic).
彼は最近大人びて見える。
He looks mature lately.
この町はひなびた雰囲気がある。
This town has a rustic atmosphere.
