short ton
A unit of weight equal to 2,000 pounds (approx. 907 kg), used mainly in the United States. Contrast with メトリックトン (metric ton, 1,000 kg) and ロングトン (long ton, approx. 1,016 kg).
In the United States, short tons are used for coal trading.
Variant with interpunct; less common in running text.
