Physics term for heat generated by an electric current passing through a resistance. Also called resistive heating or ohmic heating.
Joule heat is proportional to the square of the current and the resistance.
Heating wires generate heat using Joule heating.
Named after the English physicist James Prescott Joule. The term combines his name in katakana (ジュール) with 熱 (heat).
