noun
Swedish relay
A track-and-field relay event where the four legs are run over different distances (e.g., 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m). The term is wasei-eigo and not used in English.
wasei-eigo (Japanese-coined English), from Sweden relay
運動会でスウェーデンリレーに出場した。
I participated in the Swedish relay at the sports day.
Variant with a middle dot; less common but still seen.
General term for a relay race; スウェーデンリレー specifies the Swedish-style medley relay with unequal legs.
Wasei-eigo from 'Sweden' + 'relay'. The event is known internationally as the Swedish relay or medley relay, but the Japanese term is a direct borrowing from English words combined in a uniquely Japanese way.
