Refers to the outdoor area behind a house, similar to English 'backyard'. Less common than the Japanese native term 裏庭.
American houses often have a large backyard.
Used figuratively for the hidden or less visible part of an operation, similar to 'backstage' or 'behind the scenes'.
A lot of preparation was going on behind the scenes of that project.
back room; staff-only area; storage room
Colloquial term used in retail or restaurant contexts for areas not accessible to customers, such as stockrooms or employee break rooms.
When I asked a staff member, they brought the item from the back room.
