Baird's tapir
A species of tapir native to Central America; scientific name Tapirus bairdii.
Baird's tapir inhabits the tropical rainforests of Central America.
Alternate kanji spelling with 貘 (tapir); also rare.
Named after the American naturalist Spencer Fullerton Baird. The Japanese name is a direct borrowing from English 'Baird's tapir'.
