three-storied pagoda
A Buddhist pagoda with three tiers, commonly found in Japanese temple architecture.
There is a famous three-storied pagoda at Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto.
Compound of 三 (san, 'three'), 重 (jū, 'layer' or 'tier'), and 塔 (tō, 'tower' or 'pagoda'). The reading さんじゅうのとう reflects the combination of on'yomi readings with the genitive particle の inserted for euphony.
