Historical term referring to the political position of supporting the Tokugawa shogunate, especially during the Bakumatsu period. Often contrasted with 倒幕 (とうばく, anti-shogunate).
During the Bakumatsu period, the pro-shogunate faction and the anti-shogunate faction fiercely opposed each other.
