hairdresser's room in a shogun's or noble's residence

Archaic term for a dedicated hairdressing chamber within the residence of a shogun or high-ranking noble during the Edo period. Not used in modern Japanese.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だい、将しょう軍ぐんの御ご殿てんには便びん所しょと呼よばれる理り髪はつのための部屋へやがあった。

  In the Edo period, the shogun's palace had a room called a 便所 for hairdressing.
