Japanese-made Chinese-style word; wasei kango
A linguistic term for words coined in Japan using Chinese-derived morphemes, often distinct from native Japanese or Western loanwords. Common in academic and historical contexts.
"Tetsugaku" (philosophy) and "kagaku" (science) are examples of wasei kango.
Many wasei kango were created during the Meiji period.
