earthly immortal (Taoism)
In Taoist cosmology, a class of immortal who remains on earth rather than ascending to heaven. Contrasts with 天仙 (celestial immortal).

In Taoism, earthly immortals are said to dwell in mountains and caves, possessing eternal youth and longevity.
From Chinese 地仙 (dìxiān), composed of 地 'earth' and 仙 'immortal'. The term is used in Taoist texts to distinguish immortals who stay on earth from those who ascend to heaven.
