Used for burying objects or remains directly in the earth. Less common than 埋める (うめる) in modern Japanese.

• 昔むかしは宝たから物ものを庭にわに埋いけることがあった。

  In the old days, people sometimes buried treasure in the garden.

Traditional fire-management technique: covering hot coals with ash to keep them smoldering, or arranging charcoal in a hibachi to start a fire. Specialized and somewhat archaic.

• 火ひ鉢ばちの炭すみに灰はいを埋いけて、火ひを長なが持もちさせる。

  Cover the charcoal in the hibachi with ash to keep the fire going longer.

• 炭すみを埋いけて火ひをおこす。

  Bank the charcoal to start a fire.
