Used at the beginning of a sentence or clause to express relief that something turned out well. Slightly formal, common in both speech and writing.

  Fortunately, it didn't turn into a major accident.

• 幸さいわいにして、試し験けんに合ごう格かくした。

  Luckily, I passed the exam.
