also: おしずまる
yodan verb with 'ru' ending (archaic)
Archaic honorific verb (sonkeigo) used to refer respectfully to someone sleeping. Found in classical Japanese texts; in modern Japanese, honorific sleep is expressed with お休みになる or お休みあそばす.
In classical literature, 御寝る was used as a term for the sleeping of a noble person.
「およる」という動詞は、現代ではほとんど使われない古い尊敬語です。
The verb およる is an old honorific expression that is hardly used today.
Archaic honorific verb for 'to sleep'. The kanji spelling is historical; modern Japanese uses お休みになる or similar respectful expressions.
Alternate archaic reading for the same kanji form. Extremely rare; the reading およる is more common in classical references.
Compound of honorific prefix 御 (お) and classical verb 寝る (now 寝る ねる). The reading およる is a regular sound shift from お + 寝る. The alternate reading おしずまる may derive from a different verb root, but its exact origin is uncertain.
