A classical-style phrase expressing the idea that engaging in battle inevitably leads to victory. Rare in modern conversation; more likely to appear in historical or literary contexts, or as a proverb-like statement.

• 彼かれは「戦たたかえばすなわち勝かつ」という信しん念ねんで戦たたかいに臨のぞんだ。

  He went into battle with the belief that if he fought, he would win.

• この軍ぐんは戦たたかえばすなわち勝かつと言いわれるほど強つよかった。

  This army was so strong that it was said to win every battle it fought.
