poke around in; dig around in; pick
Describes inserting a tool or finger into a small space and moving it around, often to clean or remove something. Common with 耳, 鼻, 歯, etc.

Usually written in kana; the kanji form 抉る is rare and may not be recognized by all readers.
Kanji form is uncommon; learners should prefer the kana spelling.
The origin is uncertain. Possibly related to the mimetic word くじくじ (hesitant, fumbling) or the verb くじく (to sprain, to dampen), but the connection is not clear.
