Historical term for an establishment where guests were entertained by hired courtesans from outside; not a modern word.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だいの吉よし原わらには多おおくの揚あげ屋やがあった。

  In the Yoshiwara district of the Edo period, there were many ageya.

• 揚あげ屋やでは、太夫たゆうと呼よばれる高こう級きゅう遊ゆう女じょが客きゃくをもてなした。

  At ageya, high-ranking courtesans called tayū entertained guests.
