halberd
A historical polearm combining an axe blade with a spear point, used in medieval Europe and Japan. The Japanese term 斧槍 can refer to both Western halberds and similar Japanese weapons.

On medieval battlefields, the halberd was one of the main weapons of infantry.
Compound of 斧 (ふ, 'axe') and 槍 (そう, 'spear'), literally 'axe-spear'. The reading ふそう follows the on'yomi of both characters.
