Silla; ancient Korean kingdom
Historical term for one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, existing from 57 BCE to 935 CE. Often contrasted with 高句麗 (Goguryeo) and 百済 (Baekje).

The kanji 新羅 are ateji for the Korean name Silla (신라). The reading しらぎ is a Japanese approximation of the original Korean pronunciation, while しんら is a later Sino-Japanese reading.
