かける

Used for spanning or placing something so it rests on two supports: a bridge, a clothesline, a leg on a table, etc. The kanji 架ける is specific to this meaning, but kana かける is more common.

• 川かわに橋はしを架かける計けい画かくがある。

  There is a plan to build a bridge over the river.

• テーブルに足あしを架かけないでください。

  Please don't put your legs up on the table.
