A mountaineering strategy where climbers establish a series of camps and ferry supplies up the mountain, as opposed to alpine style. Used in technical climbing contexts.
Many expeditions on Everest use the siege style.
Expedition style requires more time and supplies than alpine style.
Compound of 極地 (polar region, extreme place) and 法 (method). The term likely originated from the methodical, large-scale expedition tactics used in polar exploration, later applied to high-altitude mountaineering.
