straight punch; thrust punch
A fundamental karate technique: a straight punch delivered with the front two knuckles of a clenched fist, often from the hip.
We practice the straight punch repeatedly in basic training.
The straight punch is delivered using hip rotation.
Compound of 正拳 (seiken, 'forefist' or 'proper fist') and 突き (tsuki, 'thrust' or 'punch'). The term is specific to karate and other Japanese striking arts.
