Refers to the process of applying a vitreous enamel coating to metal or pottery, or to the resulting enameled goods. Historically associated with Seto ware, but now used broadly for enameled items.

From 瀬戸 (Seto, a famous pottery region) + 引き (from 引く, here meaning 'to apply a coating'). The term originally referred to the glazing technique used in Seto ware, later extended to enamelware in general.
