this and that; one thing or another

Used when referring vaguely to various things or matters, often in the context of doing or dealing with them. Can be used adverbially or with する.

• そうこうしているうちに、時じ間かんが過すぎてしまった。

  While I was doing this and that, time passed.

• そうこうするうちに、電でん車しゃが出でてしまった。

  While I was dealing with one thing or another, the train left.
