A somewhat formal or literary conjunction that acknowledges a preceding statement while introducing a contrasting or qualifying point. Often used in written or formal speech.

• 努ど力りょくはした。さりとて、結けっ果かには満まん足ぞくしていない。

  I made an effort. And yet, I'm not satisfied with the result.

• 彼かれの言いい分ぶんもわかる。さりとて、全ぜん面めん的てきに賛さん成せいはできない。

  I understand his point. Nevertheless, I can't fully agree.
