humorous literature (Edo period)
A genre of light, often satirical prose or poetry from the Edo period, distinct from more serious literary forms.
During the Edo period, humorous writings called kyōbun were popular.
From 狂 (mad, wild, humorous) + 文 (writing, literature). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the term was used in the Edo period for a specific genre of humorous prose.
