traditional Japanese land-area units
Collective term for 町 (chō), 段 (tan), 畝 (se), and 歩 (bu), used historically for measuring rice fields, forests, and other land. Now largely replaced by metric units, but still encountered in older documents and some rural contexts.
On this map, the area of the rice paddies is recorded in the traditional units of chō, tan, se, and bu.
