Anatomical term for bone that develops directly within a membrane, such as the flat bones of the skull.
Many of the skull bones are formed from membranous bone.
Compound of 膜性 (membranous) and 骨 (bone). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the term is a modern anatomical coinage.
