Nicobar pigeon
A species of pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) found in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The name is usually written in katakana.
The Nicobar pigeon inhabits islands in the Indian Ocean.
The Japanese name ミノバト (蓑鳩) literally means 'straw raincoat pigeon', referring to the bird's long, iridescent hackles that resemble a traditional straw raincoat (蓑).
