Used for deliberately displaying knowledge, talent, or possessions to impress others; often carries a negative nuance of pretentiousness. Common in the negative form てらわない or in the expression 衒わずに (without showing off).
彼は知識を衒わずに、わかりやすく説明してくれた。
He explained it clearly without showing off his knowledge.
彼女は自分の才能を衒うようなことはしない。
She never flaunts her talent.
