overstrike
Computing term for printing one character on top of another, or for overwriting existing text with new characters.
On old typewriters, they corrected characters by overstriking.
This printer does not support the overstrike function.
Compound of 重ね (kasane, 'piling up, layering') + 打ち (uchi, 'striking, hitting'), literally 'layered striking'.
