ようにしているMaintaining a conscious habit
Expresses an ongoing, conscious effort to do something—or avoid doing it—as a regular habit. It often sounds modest: the speaker is describing what they try to do, not claiming perfect success.
A habit you actively maintain
This form is useful when a routine requires attention or self-control. Expressions such as いつも and できるだけ naturally reinforce this sense of repeated effort.

Effort, decision, or change?
ようにしている presents behavior as a sustained conscious effort. ようにする can state a resolve or arrangement without saying that it is already an established habit. ことにしている presents the routine more firmly as a personal decision or rule. ようになる instead reports that an ability, state, or behavior has changed.
