ませんかPolite invitation
ませんか politely invites someone to join an activity or suggests doing something together. Although the verb is grammatically negative, the whole question normally means “Would you like to...?”
How the negative becomes an invitation
The negative question gently checks whether the listener would be interested. Do not translate it literally as “Won’t you...?” in ordinary invitations; natural English usually uses “Would you like to...?” or “Shall we...?”
Inviting and suggesting
Use the pattern for an activity that the listener can freely choose to join.
In conversation
Invitation or offer?
ませんか asks whether the listener will participate. By contrast, ましょうか can offer an action that the speaker will perform for the listener.
荷物を持ちましょうか。
Shall I carry your luggage?
